Student Government Association Meeting Minutes: April 19, 2004 Call to Order: 5:09 pm I. Welcome, Reading of the University Creed, Motion to Approve the Minutes A. Motion seconded and passed. II. President’s Report A. Presidential Search Committee Appointment 1. Exec’s recommendation for the appointee to serve on this committee will be brought forward in new business. III. Executive Vice President’s Report A. Banquet is this Wednesday at 5:30 pm in Muse Banquethall. The dress is business (no jeans!). IV. Legislative Vice President’s Report A. All Council Chairs need to email Brie with next year’s chairperson information (name, phone number, and email) by Friday. V. Vice President of Student Finance Report A. A response from Dr. Pomerantz regarding next year’s proposed budget will be received sometime this week. VI. Advisor’s Report A. We need four student marshals for graduation. The volunteers get a free lunch and would need to be available for the rehearsal on May 7 and the ceremony May 8. Please contact Michael Mardis if interested. B. There are open positions for summer work in the Dean of Student’s Office. Contact Michael or Kim Vest if you are interested. C. Brie will pass out SGA surveys for members to rate their experience with SGA this year. Please take a minute to fill this out! VII. Cabinet/Staff Reports A. Honors Promotion Chair – Meredith Henderson 1. The first design was chosen as the winning submission for the new Honor Code plaque. The artist will be informed this week. VIII. Council Reports A. OCSC – Colin Fletcher 1. Clean with the Dean was a huge success; over 150 people attended this event. Thanks for your help! B. ISAC – Bemnet Zeleke 1. Induction for new officers was held this week. We still need a treasurer so if you are interested, contact someone on ISAC! IX. Committee Reports A. Program Review Committee – Ryan Dillard 1. The Registrar’s office is seeking student feedback for ways it can become more accessible and useful to students. Discussion was held; contact rdillard@radford.edu with suggestions. B. Waldron Colllege Dean Search Committee – Kenda Deleon 1. Another potential candidate will be brought to campus for an interview soon. X. Unfinished Business A. Decision on Alcohol on Campus Proposal 1. Tom Delucah will possibly come to speak with us next week. If you have specific questions about this issue for catering, please email them to rlythgoe@radford.edu. B. SGA Stance on Tuition Increase 1. Ross and Kenda went to the meeting last Friday and expressed the opinion that the tuition should be raised by 10%. They also supported the idea that the generated funds should be split 80/20 between G&E and Auxiliary accounts. They also supported giving more money to financial aid to help those students who will be most adversely affected this increase. Discussion was held about this issue. C. Presidential Search Committee Appointment 1. Exec has recommended that Stephanie Harmon be appointed as the Student Representative on the Presidential Search Committee. Their reasoning for this choice was explained. A motion was made and seconded to formally accept Stephanie Harmon as the Student Representative on the Presidential Search Committee. Discussion was held. Motion passed 11-1-3. XI. New Business - None XII. Announcements A. A Hypnotist will be on campus tonight at 7:00 in the Ballroom. B. Orientation for next year’s senate will be held April 29 at 7:00 pm, room TBA. C. Cabinet/Staff applications are due April 22. Meeting adjourned at 5:55 pm.
