SGA Senate Minutes August 30, 2004 5:00 PM I. Call to Order at 5:06 PM II. Welcome III. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve and 2nd. Motion passed IV. President’s Report a. Board of Visitors met last week. Minutes from the SGA Report to the Board of Visitors was passed around at the meetings. b. Virginia 21, Shawn will give report during Council reports. c. Gubernatorial Candidate: Next year there is a Gubernatorial race, one of the candidates will be visiting campus soon, He is planed to come on Sept, 20th and we will be holding a forum for the event d. SGA will be attending a conference on October 7-10 and those attending will be Shannon Joyce, Kenda Deleon, Kyle Denny, and Erica Jones V. Executive Vice President’s Report a. We held retreat week before classes started. The retreat was mandatory for all members. Everyone who was not there have to come to make up retreat. September 15th, 12-5 will be make-up date. If you cannot attend and were not at the preschool retreat you need to see Ashley b. Presidential Forum: email Ashley if you wish to help with the upcoming forum. Amezky@radford.edu c. September 13th, we will be holding the meeting at 4:30 to invite faculty/staff who we work with. We will have some refreshments and get to know them better VI. Legislative Vice President’s Report a. Constitution: We will be sending an electronic copy of new revisions b. IG’s: Everything has been set and sent to Presidential office. If there are problems see Shannon c. Election: 8 positions are open. Information meeting is Monday 7PM in the Commonwealth Room. Election packets are done. The Elections are 13-14. d. Electoral Board will be Nicole Theriault, Ashley Anderson, Shawn Healy, and Carlyn Kelley. Andrew Kirby, Dan Blake and Matt Holland will be alternates VII. Vice President of Student Finance Report a. SFC: Held first meeting today at 4. Update on two requests today- They want to give each club and organization funding to organize their float for the Highlander Parade Festival. SFC Approved request and it came to $5000. Alumni Affairs office wants to have hot air balloon rides at homecoming and they asked for $3000. SFC tabled the idea. Passed around request forms, any feed back let a member of SFC know. b. Training for Budget was canceled c. Needed a SFC secretary for next semester VIII. Advisor’s Report a. Thank you for everyone at the retreat. b. Appreciation for Executive Board c. Reminder for GPA requirement IX. Cabinet/Staff Reports a. Office hours are mandatory for senators and be sure that you sign up for an hour and fulfill your hour every week b. Keys will be put in the computer by next week c. Everyone has a mailbox in the SGA office, try to check it once a week X. Council Reports XI. Committee Reports a. University Advancement: Stephanie passed around major gifts and contributions that have occurred recently. b. Academic Affairs: Committee passed general motions and discussed the new committee to improve professor’s salary ranges XII. Unfinished Business a. Constitution: Sending out the constitution and be prepared to vote on Monday XIII. New Business a. IG’s: IG appointments were moved to approve, 2nd, tabled b. Electoral Board: Move to approve the electoral board senators, 2nd, voice vote-passed c. Virginia 21: Needs 6 people who are interested in going to Richmond on September 24th for political campaign. Contact Shawn if you are interested d. Motion to approve the $5000 for the parade, 2nd, discussion, passed XIV. Announcements a. City Loop for the Tartan transit. Wants Student feed back on this new plan and new hours b. Student Engagement Forum, held on Oct 11-12 and if you are interesting in participating go to the Student Affairs Website c. Need a PR assistant and a Chief of Staff Assistant d. St. Albans, the President’s office is currently working on ideas for facility.
