Student Government Association Senate Meeting Minutes November 27th, 2006 I. Call to Order- 5:04 PM II. Approval of Minutes a. Minutes Approved III. President’s Report a. Board of Visitors December 4th i. That will last all day because it was traditionally two days but now they have the committee meetings in the morning so it is compressed into one day now b. SFC i. There has been an extension for the SFC hearing to January 8th c. Conference i. Margaret ii. Ashley iii. Nikole d. Diversity Request-New Business e. Resolutions- New Business i. Landlords ii. Bonnie iii. Parking IV. Executive Vice President a. Forum i. Thank you to everyone who came to the forum it went very well and the next forum will be sometime after winter retreat b. Winter Retreat i. Saturday January 13th, time will be announced V. Legislative Vice President VI. Vice President of Student Finance a. Regis would like to apologize for the move of the budget hearing which will be on January 8th VII. Senate Report a. Rochelle i. Met with her dean and they talked about getting a better word out on Radford university, talked about networking and other key points to improve our image VIII. Cabinet/Staff Reports a. Chief of Staff i. Cabinet/Staff Meeting 1. No meeting tonight but we will meet next Monday b. Community Service Coordinator i. Bone Marrow Drive 1. Special thanks to Matt Cox for being there on Tuesday and Wednesday and to everyone else who showed up to help out with the drive c. APC i. The free pizza night went well but we need to look into ways of providing more pizza IX. Council Reports X. Old Business XI. New Business a. Diversity Request i. Omar has previously approached SGA with a one time request for money for inspectors to come on campus to see what our problems and good points are when it comes to diversity, they would hold a forum that night and talk about what they found out and how we can work on things 1. Motion was not approved b. Resolutions i. Martin would personally like to pass a motion to make a resolution about on campus housing, Martin would like to ask everyone what they would like to see in their resolution 1. To treat students with respect like they would their parents 2. To fix things in a timely manner 3. To move the dates further back so students are not trapped into a lease 9 months in advance 4. No reality company should be able to enter your property unless notified 5. Charging too much money for repairs in the house and doing the repairs without consent 6. Having a co-signer on lease so that there will benefits for both the student and the landlord ii. Parking Resolution 1. Bonnie parking lot should be open to students 2. There should be more metered spots/longer times for meters 3. Times that parking spots should be enforced should be moved back from 6 to 5 XII. Announcements a.
