Student Government Association Senate Meeting Minutes September 18th, 2006 I. Call to Order- 5:02 PM II. Approval of Minutes a. Minutes approved III. President’s Report a. BOV i. The BOV met on Wed and Thurs to discuss issues as well as welcome two new members and a new rector b. Updates i. Thanks to everyone who came out and support the CAB/BAP Casino and a special thanks to those who stayed the throughout the whole event, we would like to see more participation at similar events in the future c. Community Service i. Start thinking of ideas about a community service project and e-mail your ideas to Martin IV. Executive Vice President a. Winner of the Ring Ceremony Singer Auditions i. Katie Squires won the auditions for the singer at the ring ceremony and there is also an alternate just in case V. Legislative Vice President a. New Senators/Election Results i. Matt Williams is our new On-Campus Senator ii. Matt Cox is our new Freshman Class Senator b. Pre-Major Senator i. Dima Arabi has given SGA a formal resignation from the position of Pre-Major Senator ii. A nomination has been made for Margaret Brennan as the new Pre-Major Senator i. The motion carried and we welcome Margaret to her new position c. Senator Meeting i. There will be a senator meeting directly following our general body meeting d. IG’s i. Dr. Griffith will be sending out letters next week regarding your IG committee and who will be serving on it VI. Vice President of Student Finance a. Media Budget Proposal i. Radford Free Radio and ROC-TV addressed the SFC for one time budget requests, the SFC requested itemized budgets which will be presented by the organizations at the next SFC meeting VII. Senate Report a. Senator at Large-Meredith i. Planning and Budget Committee i. The committee has devised the “Investing in Excellence” plan which includes the hiring of 39 new teachers, an increase in the student enrollment for the Honors Academy, and an increase in scholarships b. Sophomore Class Senator i. Homecoming Kids Carnival i. We need volunteers for the Homecoming Kids Carnival, please e-mail Amber at aalcaraz@radford.edu if your are interested in helping out VIII. Cabinet/Staff Reports a. UN Day i. Student Government will be sponsoring the first ever UN day, in order to help out with organizing they day there will be an ad-hoc committee that will meet every Thursday at 5, contact Omar if you would be interested in being on the committee b. Chief Of Staff i. No Cabinet/Staff meeting ii. Fill out binder being passed around iii. Outstanding Parent Award Applications due today c. Secretary i. Office Hours i. Clarification of Hours a. Please sign the sheet to the right of your name and I will have a new system by next week b. If you haven’t signed up for an office hour please do so d. Honors Promotion Coordinator i. Honors and Ethics Week i. Honors and Ethics Week will be from October 2nd-6th , there are a lot of great events and workshop that will be held during the week ii. Matt has made a motion to request 500 dollars from the SGA operating account in order to fund the week a. Motion was unanimously passed by the senate IX. Council Reports a. ISAC i. Diversity Week i. Diversity week is next week and ISAC will be hanging blank posters around dorms as well as outside the tunnel of oppression for individuals to right what they feel ii. Passport Night, September 26th, Time and Place TBA i. There will be Baklava and dancing, Rochelle will send an e-mail out with further information iii. Bisset BBQ and Soccer, September 30th, 1-4 PM i. Please come out and support ISAC and all the international students that will be in attendance at the BBQ X. Old Business XI. New Business XII.
