SGA Senate Meeting Minutes 1/30/06 I. Call to order II. Welcome III. Approval of Minutes - passed unanimously IV. President’s Report A. SC Conference – everyone going to the conference please see Stephanie after the meeting B. Swipe lock for the office – There are two choices, use the keys as we have been doing or use the swipe lock. This has been frustrating for all groups that have offices in the bonnie. Members voted and we will discontinue the swipe lock system in the office. C. Break Sub-Committee – Exec has met and Rochelle will be added to the committee. They will continue to meet with Heidi (the Registrar) regarding our breaks. D. SMC – if anyone is interested, see Sarah E. Weapons Bill – a copy of the official bill was presented and reviewed by members to make a resolution to send to Richmond, letting legislators know where the students of Radford University stands. Many other schools are opposing this bill. Radford’s policy as of right now, is NO firearms on campus. However, though SGA was in opposition to this bill, it has since died in a committee. V. Executive Vice President’s Report A. Awards Banquet – end of the year Wednesday, April 29 @ 5pm Bondurant center on Main Street. VI. Legislative Vice President’s Report A. Elections are coming up, get the word out and encourage friends to run for positions. VII. Vice President of Student Finance’s Report A. Petition to City Council – asked to put an online petition about the actions of the City Police on the SGA website, permission was granted with a unanimous vote. B. Secretary for SFC –if you know of anyone that would be interested, please let Martin know. C. Scholarly Travel has asked for a $4000 increase. D. Parent weekend has asked for a $1000 increase. E. Parade also asked for an increase in funds. VIII. Senate Report A. Tonise - RHA Legislation update 1. The Triples and Facility Management legislation passed. B. Mike met with the IST committee 1. Portal will be completely designed by next year or soon 2. Laptops, if this becomes a university/major requirement, no one will be denied admission if they are unable to by laptop. C. Chris – dinner for internships recruiting, open to all majors IX. Cabinet/Staff Reports X. Council Reports XI. Committee Reports A. Joint Commision – Stephanie let them know that a petition will be presented at the City Council. Also discussed the upcoming housing fair. B. Chris – if anyone has any issues with building and grounds, Chris will be be attending the Building and Grounds Committee C. Lauren – Wednesday will be the Black History Kickoff in Heth Ballroom! XII. Advisor’s Report XIII. Old Business A. Mayrin Calcano – Appointed as the Graduate College Senator! Welcome to SGA! Congratulations! B. Meredith Friedman – Appointed as the At Large Senator. Congratulations! Welcome to SGA! XIV. New Business A. Weapons Bill - Majority of senate opposed this bill. XV. Announcements A. Member of the week – Nikole!!! Congrats! Thank you for your helpfulness and enthusiasm! B. Parents have called Radford wondering a phone call why did we not Martin Luther King day off. Students would like to have the day off to honor this wonderful man. Perhaps we can look at all the alternatives to see if we could have the holiday off. XVI. Adjourn 6:03
