Student Government Association Senate Meeting Minutes February 5th, 2007 I. Call to Order-5:02 PM II. Approval of Minutes a. Minutes Approved III. President’s Report a. Graduation Policy i. The AP&P committee has brought to SGA’s attention some possible changes regarding policies in the catalog allowing departments to determine what courses students must take in order to graduate with a particular major. 1. There has been a motion made to approve the changes along with amendments a. Motion Failed b. Graduation With Honors i. There has been a policy brought to SGA from the AP&P committee regarding graduation with honors for transfer students. Any transfer student with less than 60 credit hours here at Radford with a GPA above 3.5 with graduate with distinction. 1. Motion has been made to approve the changes a. Motion carried c. Hawi Alemu (Buy Red) d. Funding For Highlander Olympics i. Will be discussed at a later date because Ashley is not present at the meeting e. Relay for Life i. Event is coming up in April and SGA usually has a team so the official date will be announced at a later event and a sign up sheet will be passed around f. FYC Money IV. Executive Vice President a. Forum i. The date for the upcoming forum will be announced at a later date V. Legislative Vice President a. Electoral Board i. There is a meeting tomorrow at 4 o clock in the SGA office b. College of Health and Human Services i. Anna Meal, Sophomore whose major is nursing and minor is biology, she wants to be involved with the senate 1. Motion has been made to approve Anna as the college Senator a. Motion Passed c. Election Dates i. Election packets come out this Friday, Info sessions are on Monday and Tuesday February 12th and 13th in room 248 in the Bonnie, the election packets are due the 23rd, the presidential debate is February 28th, and elections are March 6th and the 7th VI. Vice President of Student Finance a. Budget Hearing- Theater i. Theater asked for level funding for next year that goes towards their production costs, if you want more information contact Regis b. One Time Funding Request- Student Leadership i. SFC had student leadership come in and ask for 3,500 dollars in order to cover the budget of the Blue Ridge conference since Radford will be hosting the conference this year 1. SFC approved the one time fund request a. SGA has made a motion to approve the amount i. Motion Passed VII. Senate Report a. Alex i. Talked to Mary Weeks and in a few weeks from now Alex is planning a night seminar with the guest speaker being an FBI agent talking about white collar crime and ethics which will be held in the Bonnie b. Pebbles i. This Sunday is the freshman social from 2-5 PM in the Bonnie in the game area and Pebbles would like everyone to come out and support the event ii. Pebbles will be giving more information about their next event which will be the battle of the dorms VIII. Cabinet/Staff Reports a. Chief of Staff i. Cabinet/Staff Meeting 1. There will be a meeting right after our general body meeting b. Diversity Awareness Coordinator i. Diversity Survey 1. Omar is going to be making a survey about diversity on this campus discussing the positive and negative aspects of diversity on this campus and what needs to be improved so Omar can start working on these issues c. Junior Class Senator i. Highlander Olympics Money from SFC ii. Highlander Olympics Meeting iii. Formal Stance on Excused Absences d. Secretary i. Parking and Traffic Regulation Committee 1. Joe will contact the parking committee and set up a meeting time with the representatives to address present concerns and issues ii. Attendance and Office Hours 1. Please do your office hours and come to the meetings because both have been lacking the past couple weeks e. Erin i. The Legislative Advocacy trip was a huge success and the students were able to give their agenda and talk with legislators about supporting issues important to us IX. Council Reports a. BSAC i. Tonight BSAC is having their first forum for the month of February tonight at 7 in Heth Lounge A b. OCSC i. OCSC had their housing fair last week and they recived a lot of good feedback from students and landlords c. Travis i. ISAC is having their Valentines Day Celebration this Friday the 9th in Pocahontas lounge at 6 PM, they will be decorating cookies and talking about what other countries and cultures do to celebrate Valentine's Day X. Old Business XI. New Business a. Hope Saville-Historian i. Freshman here at Radford and a current member of FYC, Hope wants to become part of SGA and help out in anyway possible 1.
