SGA sponsors, co-sponsors, and participates in many exciting events throughout the year.
If you are a junior or senior who ordered a class ring,
make sure to be at Ring Ceremony, Fri.10/2 at 6:00 p.m.
in the Covington Center. After Ring Ceremony, we'll also
be presenting the 2009 Outstanding Parent Award.

On October 2 and 3, people from all over the
region will join us to celebrate the annual City of
Radford and Radford University Highlander Festival.
Scottish heavyweight games, the Appalachian Folk
Arts Festival, a 5K Run, Taste of the Highlands,
Family Weekend Dog Show, music, vendors, and a
parade are only some of the many fun events to be
held in our community this weekend. Make sure you
are around October 2 and 3 - you won't regret it!
Radford is celebrating its 100 anniversary in
2010! The theme of the celebration is service, and
throughout the 09-10 school year there will be
speakers and events centering around this theme.
Tom's Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie is one speaker
we're especially excited about. For every pair of
shoes Tom's sells, they give a pair for free to a
child in need.
Also, members of the RU community are invited to participate in the Centennial Service Challenge
Homecoming Week happens every year in February,
and includes events like the ThinkFast Game Show
competition, crowning of the Highlander King and
Queen, and everyone's favorite campus event, the
Highlander Olympics. The Highlander Olympics, with
student group versus student group challenges such
as jousting and mechanical bull riding, were held
for the first time in 2009, and they were a huge
success. Make sure to check back here for more
information closer to February. You don't want to
miss this event!

Each year, a group of students goes to Richmond on
behalf of RU, where we have the opportunity to meet
our state representatives and other political
figures and learn more about how our state is run.
Read the RU
news release about the 2009 trip. Application
is open to all students. More information to come
closer to the 2010 trip date.
In 2009 more than 550 members of the Radford
community participated in the American Cancer
Society's Relay for Life, an annual overnight
walkathon. Led by a committee consisting mainly of
RU students, the Radford Relay raised more than
$30,000 for the American Cancer Society. We look
forward to making our contribution to this crucial
cause in 2010. Check back for more information as
the April event nears.
Each semester SGA hosts at least 2 forums on topics of interest to the student body. Some ideas for this semester include How to Budget Your Money, and A Night with President Kyle. We will update this page when we have more info on these forums.
Club Fair was a blast! Thanks to everyone who
came by our table to find out how to be a part of
what we're doing for RU and our fellow students. Be
on the lookout for info in your email inbox soon on
how you can participate in SGA this year! If you
missed our table at Club Fair, please email us to get
involved.
A big thank you to our fearless SGA president and others who braved the dunking booth, and to all the students who took a shot and made them wish they had never volunteered!
Taste for Diversity is an evening filled with global entertainment
and numerous assortments of international cuisine and treats. When
students walk in the doors, they are encouraged to step out of their
everyday realm and step into a new cultural realm they may not be
familiar with. This helps to educate students on the different
multicultural aspects of our world and to help students appreciate
the many different ethnic backgrounds and diverse features of
Radford University. What began as a small residence hall event
has transformed into a successful campus-wide program. Since its
founding in 2006, Taste for Diversity has brought students,
faculty, and residents of the New River Valley together to learn
and embrace each others’ differences.
If you are a current Radford University student, then you are a member of the Student Government Association. Our student body is governed by students, for students. The university exists for the benefit of students. We deserve to, and do, have influence in university-wide policies and student activity funding.
SGA is the voice of the student body. And we cannot be your voice without your help. So look around our website, get familiar with some of the things we do, and contact us whenever you have questions, ideas, or concerns; need guidance on university procedures; need help with an event; or just want to say hi. All of us working together will make Radford a truly special place and a life-changing experience.
This year SGA endeavors to closely listen to student
opinion and be a channel for open communication between
students and the administration and faculty. We’re
taking a hands-on approach to achieving goals like
increasing school spirit, sustainability, diversity
awareness, and service on campus. We also sponsor many
fun events ranging from Homecoming to the Highlander
Olympics. We believe in open access to information,
student leadership, integrity, excellence, and constantly
bettering RU and the student experience.
